DC SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER FIREARMS COURSE - 40 Hour Training

 

This 40 Hour Officer Firearms course is will teach officers firearm safety and proper use in order to become a DC Special Police Officer.  This class is thirty-two (32) hours of classroom instruction and eight (8) hours of range practice.  The qualification and the curriculum will consist of safety principles regarding firearms, the proper handling of service weapons, proper use of force, firearms nomenclature, the fundamentals of marksmanship, prevention and recovery from weapons’ malfunctions, and other related topics.

A final written exam will be administered to assess each student’s level of classroom comprehension and is pass or fail.  Students will also be required to pass a firearms qualification and must meet the minimum of 80% accuracy to pass the course.

 

Items needed for the course:

  • A positive attitude

  • Notepad to take notes

  • A firearm (bring personal or rental available)

  • A minimum of fifty-two (60) rounds of ammunition.

MARYLAND WEAR AND CARRY PERMIT COURSE - 8 Hours Training 1 Hour Range Time ($ 330)

This 8 Hour Handgun permit course is designed for MD armed security personnel (security guards, private detectives, and armored car guards/drivers) to meet the requirements by Maryland State Police to carry a firearm in Maryland in connection with their employment.  The class is fourteen (14) hours of classroom instruction and two (2) hours of range practice and qualification for an initial application.  There are six (6) hours of classroom instruction and two (2) hours of range practice and qualification for a renewal application. The curriculum will consist of state firearm law, home firearm safety, handgun mechanisms and operation.

Students will be required to pass a firearms qualification and must meet the minimum of 70% accuracy to pass the course.

  • A firearm (bring personal or rental available)

  • A minimum of fifty (50) rounds of ammunition.

  • Course fee does not include range fees.

MONADNOCK EXPANDABLE BATON (MEB) CERTIFICATION COURSE - 2 Hour Training ($80)

This certification is a hands-on course that trains participants in the operational use of the extendable tactical baton. This course also covers any straight baton to include the ASP baton. The program is simple to learn and easy to understand. The techniques were designed to work effectively for all officers. The program provides carrying and drawing procedures, as well as striking techniques. These tactics are quickly learned, easily practiced, and readily maintained long after the program is completed.

A written exam will be administered to assess the level of classroom comprehension and students must meet the minimum of 80% accuracy to pass the course.

HANDCUFF CERTIFICATION - 2 Hour Training ($80)

Handcuffs are among the most often used tool by officers, yet training is severely lacking. Handcuff studies show that over 67% of resistance by subjects occurs after the first handcuff has been applied.  All too often the result is injury and/or death to either the officer or the subject. This program teaches officers how to safely and successfully apply handcuffs on compliant and non-compliant subjects.

OC SPRAY CERTIFICATION - 2 Hour Training ($80)

The Oleoresin Capiscum (OC) Spray Certification provides officers with information on the physiological effects, the use, and the after use of OC. The course will present principals, skills, and techniques of understanding and using OC to control violent and aggressive behavior; reduce personal injury to officers, subjects, and the general public; increase an officer’s confidence in physically threatening situations, and reduce the exposure of civil liability of the officer and the employer for unnecessary or improper force used to control violent and aggressive subjects.

HANDGUN AND SHOTGUN COURSE

This course is designed to teach officers the safe, effective, and timely use of their firearms. Some of the topics covered during this training course include:  mounting the weapon, ammunition selection, stress fire, shotgun-handgun transition, and maintenance, responding to a sudden deployment of a handgun against them, weapons retention, reloading, and officer safety skills.

NOTE

  • This course does not include range fees, firearms, nor ammunition. All items can be rented at the range.

AMERICAN RED CROSS CPR, FIRST AID, AND AED -

4 Hour Training ($110)

American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, and AED courses are designed to give you the confidence to respond in an emergency situation. Whether you are a law enforcement or security professional or someone that works with children, wants training for employees, or simply wants to know how to help someone in an emergency,  ASATS has courses designed to give you the skills that can save a life.
